THE BERMUDA REGIMENT CELEBRATES ITS GOLDEN ANNIVERSARY IN GRAND STYLE. Courtesy of Bermuda Regiment 50th Anniversary Committee The Bermuda Regiment's history dates back to an Act of Parliament in 1892, which created two units, the Bermuda Volunteer Rifles Corps (BVRC) — later known as the Bermuda Rifles — and the Bermuda Militia Artillery (BMA). The modern-day Bermuda Regiment came about as a result of the amalgamation of these two units in1965. Both predecessor units had proud histories, from their founding in the late 19th century, through active service both locally and overseas in both World Wars. A year-long celebration of their 50th Anniversary is planned throughout 2015 with special events centred around the theme of Reunion. As we recognise our beloved Regiment, we take the opportunity to celebrate our cultural heritage and share it with our visitors — especially former overseas service personnel. We welcome everyone to reunite in Bermuda this year! The highlight of the year's events is The Bermuda Tattoo 2015 , to be held at the Keep Yard in Royal Naval Dockyard from October 22 - 24 . The Regiment's world-famous Band and Corps of Drums will play host to celebrated military and cultural acts from around the world. It's a spectacle not it be missed! Other events include The Peppercorn Ceremony and Freedom of St. George Parade, Trooping of the Colours and Queen's Birthday Parade on June 13, and The Convening of the Legislature and Freedom of Hamilton Parade on November 6. In addition, a special exhibit of Military Art is planned for the Masterworks Museum of Bermuda Art in July. The Bermuda Regiment encourages all friends of Bermuda — both old and new — to join us in 2015 as we celebrate this golden milestone.
