SALSA DANCING HITS MAINSTREAM BERMUDA. Dancing is a big part of the culture in Bermuda. And salsa dancing has made its way through the nightlife circuit, as well as events throughout the island. If you’re looking to feel the rhythm of the music but have two left feet, you can still dance like a pro thanks to a few local organisations. Bermuda Latin Vibes is the go-to spot for dance classes, events, local and international musicians, zumba and more. You can really get a feel for the beat thanks to Jamelle Ming and company. “I joined BLV when I started organising salsa events,” says Gemma Harris. “I hosted an event about a year ago, and we decided to host regular events under the BLV name. [Since then] we’ve hosted and organised monthly events and a big charity event.” Harris considers herself more of a learner and social dancer than a pro in the Bermuda salsa scene, “but I like to help make sure we have good social events.” At Bermuda Salsa, salsa is second nature. They offer a Sabor Dance School, a radio programme — every Saturday from 7 to 9 p.m. — and weekly Latin events, as the group’s mission is to provide an almost holistic experience in Latin food, beverages, music and dance. Whether you’re looking for group or private classes, they have it on offer here. They up the ante with choreography lessons, Latin entertainment and then some. If you’re looking to do as the locals do, make your way to one of the island’s salsa nights. Nightclubs and bars around here offer the best in shaking it off — and it doesn’t matter if you’re there for a workout, to relieve stress or to just plain have fun.
