TRY YOUR HAND AT MAKING ONE-OF-A-KIND JEWELLERY AND ART PIECES OUT OF GLASS. From shopping and dining to museums and nightlife, there is no question that Dockyard has something for everyone. For those who are in the mood to get crafty, one of the latest additions to the plethora of activities to do in Bermuda’s West End are the glass jewellery and fusing lessons at Studio 8. A new concept at the studio, participants of the class can learn how to create one-of-a-kind glass jewellery and art pieces from the glass experts themselves. The studio features five different areas to set up, including a long work bench where groups of up to six can work together, as well as individual stations for those who prefer to work on their art alone. Because glass items must be allowed to cool over night, these interactive, hands-on classes are sometimes broken up into two parts, which means double the amount of fun. During the first class, students learn the basics of glass fusing and then try their hand at it. To sweeten the experience, participants also get to sample delicious rum cakes made by The Bermuda Rum Cake Company, as the bakery is located in the same building. The next day, students return for a finishing class in which they then finish the glass and mount the pieces to turn them into their final product. Using a variety of glass, jewellery finishing findings and kilns, students create pendants, small sculptures, earrings, cufflinks, bracelets or whatever they can think up. Participants also have the option of having their glass fused and finished by the staff and delivered free of charge with their in-house delivery service or picked up by request. As for the less artistic, they need not worry about their artistry skills — each class guarantees you will finish with a treasured handmade item to take home.
