BERMUDA FOLK CLUB UNITES THE COMMUNITY WITH MUSIC Bermuda is never lacking in local flavour and is known for its sea and sunshine, friendly people, inspiring fashion and contribution to the performing arts scene. But Bermuda offers nonseasonal fun as well and doesn’t need a concert or festival to charm its visitors. If you can’t make it to the island for any of the seasonal events, there will always be a fun cultural experience waiting with the Bermuda Folk Club. The club has a musical emphasis but doesn’t limit itself to any particular genre.Diversity is king with the Bermuda Folk Club, and the organisation prides itself in hosting a fun, welcoming family environment where residents and visitors can mingle, learn from each other and enjoy a wide variety of music and dance. On Saturday nights both members and visitors are invited to club events where anyone — resident or new arrival — with skill in the evening’s theme is welcome to contribute to the fun. On a Celtic night, there might be fiddles, pipes, drums or even bagpipes in attendance as the club conjures up traditional Irish, Scottish and Welsh tunes. Blues and Country nights invite all musicians who enjoy performing blues, country and western–style music and often feature wind instruments and guitars. The club even has Filipino nights, which host traditional Filipino music, singing and dancing with tickets selling out weeks in advance. Bermuda Folk Club events are open to the public but offer special event discounts to those holding a membership, which is available to Bermudians, visitors and even overseas supporters who enjoy the club enough to remain ongoing supporters.
