EAT YOUR WAY THROUGH BERMUDA DURING BERMUDA RESTAURANT WEEKS. Bermuda’s dining landscape is as varied and diverse as anyone can dream up. From high-end resort restaurants to mom-and-pop cafés, the menus across the tiny island pack a punch with global flavours from Britain, France, Italy, the United States, India, China and Thailand, to name a few. Luckily, there is no better time to eat like a local — and try out some traditional Bermudian dishes for the first time — than during Bermuda Restaurant Weeks. Presented by the Bermuda Tourism Authority, the three-week event takes place every January and features discounted prices on selected three-course dinner menus at some of Bermuda’s top restaurants. Now in its fifth year, 2016 was the biggest one yet with a total of 45 participating restaurants. So how does it work? Each of the eateries’ chefs prepare options for appetizers, entrées and desserts at $29, $39 and $49 per person, so diners can get a good taste of Bermuda without having to break the bank. And it’s not just an eating triathlon — it’s also a competition for culinary talent. This year, 31 restaurants took on the challenge to create Bermuda-inspired dishes. Diners were then given the opportunity to judge restaurants not only on the quality of food and service but on how well they incorporate the island’s unique flavours on their menus. A winner is chosen for each price class, but only one talented chef can snag the coveted People’s Choice Award. The winner of the 2016 People’s Choice Award was Muse Skybar Executive Chef Enworth Davis for dishes like mille-feuille of codfish and potato with Spanish sauce, avocado, egg and banana.
