TAKING HOME AN AUTHENTIC-AND ARTFUL-ISLAND KEEPSAKE FROM BERMUDA MEMORIES IS A MUST. Tucked away in the historic Town of St. George is Bermuda Memories, the shop and gallery of renowned local artist Jill Amos Raine. Offering the largest collection of Raine’s work on the island, most of the pieces have never been shown anywhere else on the island. “Jill’s unique and eye-catching pieces are an iconic representation of the Ole Towne that our visitors love to take home to remember their visit to St. George’s,” says Lisa Spurling, manager of Bermuda Memories. The shop also features work from other local artists and a variety of island-made items, including glass art from their sister store, Dockyard Glassworks, and sweet treats from The Bermuda Rum Cake Company. “All of the items available in the shop are made on the island and are specially chosen to highlight the great things available here,” says Spurling. The glass selection is always popular and includes large pieces made in Dockyard and small flame working pieces made in the shop. Since every piece of glass is handblown with care, each piece is unique. You’ll find several pieces and colour patterns that are not available in the Dockyard shop. You can even watch the talented flame worker, Lee, create her masterpieces right in the shop. “We regularly have guests returning to St. George’s to pick up the special piece that they wished they bought,” says Spurling. If you are looking for a traditionally made piece that is still made the way it was a hundred years ago, Ronnie Chameau’s banana dolls and Angels are a unique and authentic Bermudian keepsake that is hard to resist. And if you’re craving something sweet, make sure to pick up a rum cake by The Bermuda Rum Cake Company, which are the only island-made brand that uses Goslings Black Seal Rum. The shop carries all six original flavours as well as seasonally available gourmet flavours. For those who wish to keep shopping around St. George’s without having to lug around their new artwork and goodies, Bermuda Memories offers delivery service. “Every gift and piece of glass is packaged to travel,” says Spurling. “So there is no need to worry about getting it back home safe and sound.”
